we have tried many a chocolate chip cookie in our lives and we have yet to find a better recipe than this one. make these cookies, share them, and prepare to be showered in love and affection. (and don’t forget to save a bunch for yourself.)
and don’t worry if you don’t have nuts: these cookies are just as good without ‘em.

the original nestle toll house chocolate chip cookies
(from 1,001 reasons to love chocolate by barbara albright and mary tiegreen)
2 1/4 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 c (230g) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 c granulated sugar
3/4 c packed brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 c chocolate drops or chips
1 c chopped nuts
preheat oven to 375 degrees farenheit (180 degrees farenheit).
combine the flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl. place the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl and beat until creamy. add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. gradually beat in the flour mixture. stir in the chocolate drops and the nuts. drop by the rounded tablespoon onto greased baking sheets.
bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until golden brown. cool on the baking sheets for two minutes, then remove to wire racks to cool completely.
makes about 5 dozen cookies.
