petits sables for christmas

christmas is almost here and things are getting festive! here’s a recipe for you to enjoy as you dream of what santa’s going to bring you.

petits sables

150 g flour
75 g butter, at room temperature and cut into small cubes
75 g caster sugar
1 egg
pinch salt

mix the flour and caster sugar in a large bowl then rub the butter in with your fingers until the mixture resembles bread crumbs.

quickly mix in the egg – knead it in if you’re having trouble mixing it.  you could, of course, use a food processer to make things easier but that’s nowhere near as fun as playing with food.

roll the mixture in a ball, wrap in gladwrap and refigerate for about an hour.

once the mixture is chilled, roll it out until it’s about half a centimeter thick. use a cookie cutter or a glass to cut out shapes.  preheat the oven to 180°C and bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.

if you’re feeling festive, decorate your petits sables with icing and hundreds and thousands and little silver balls like Ali did the other day at the little brown house.
